All our corporate lives, we have heard a tons of these acronyms; KPI (Key Performance Indicator), ROI (Return of Investment) BAU (Business as Usual), now BC!! (Business Continuity)
Now that we are confined to our homes in a lockdown, are we missing any of it? Strangely on zoom calls, without the entire body language that goes along with the jargons, they don’t sound that powerful! Once we are back in office in a few weeks and given the conditions we are in, I wonder if some of the conversations will sound like;
“Our Ecosystem has been disrupted and we are all change agents in this moment of uncertainty. Let us deep dive into our learnings and ideate with a sense of urgency. My guesstimate is that we will be out this in the next quarter with a robust plan, a holistic approach and optimum utilisation of our human capital. Create a mindset shift, map this out and focus on the low hanging fruits. Make hay while the sun shines, harness the organic process and gain some traction. There will be a paradigm shift in our thought process, so we need to push the envelope, be innovative and incentivise our efforts. Create a win-win situation for everyone. We have to think beyond our comfort zones. Future is cloud & big data, we need to be agile and continuously think out of the box. Remember content is king for all businesses. Let us strive to get a buy-in from all our teams as we make a strong business case to our stakeholders. We need to ensure a level playing field while continuously raising the bar and pivot our business model with a state-of-the-art digital transformation. Put a S.W.A.T team together to tackle this crisis and create new opportunities. Our corporate values will ensure that everyone is taken care and empowered to bring out their best. We have fabulous bench strength to allocate more power and reach outs. I want each one of us to have our skin in the game, Prepare a deck of our core competencies such that it resonates with our corporate vision. Let us look forward to building a scalable model while seamlessly integrating it with our corporate culture ensuring that best practices are adhered to. We need more evangelists n our team who will evolve, execute, hit the nail on the head and get running!!” lol , I couldn’t stop laughing by the last line !
Now, replace word Corporate with Family and read it again. Doesn’t it sound like a plan that you discussed with your family members at the onset of this lockdown? Or while you were planning the resources and manpower management for ‘jhaddu pocha’, or the digitalisation of our new way of life with zoom calls by becoming online coaches by providing online work outs, cooking lessons and yes, the social media challenges!
Interestingly, these jargon-laced spiel can be used for pandemics to meetings; everything!!.
With that thought, will you still be calling colleagues for board meetings with a traditional white paper memo from the ivory tower and sound like this? Or like everything else that is going to have a BC and AC (Before Covid 19, After Covid 19, ok that was obvious!). Will jargons evolve and get a New Age Value Makeover?
Will Empathy replace Empowerment or join it? Will Human Centred Design take over Digital Transformation? Will Digital transformation let greater good take the lead? Will we start respecting Individualism more or still bat for Team Synergy? Will we lean towards long held Corporate Values or will companies search for Newer Meanings?
Posting some of the values from the Inventory of Values by Rushworth Kidder. Most of them will become jargons in few years or will be recycled. Till then let’s try weaving them into conversations in the New Era!
Awareness, Balance, Brotherhood, Caring, Charity, Character, Compassion, Common good, Community, Conscience, Co-operation, Courage, Creativity, Dedication, Diligence, Dignity, Discipline, Equity, Fairness, Faith, Freedom, Honesty, Honor, Hope, Individualism , Industriousness, Initiative , Integrity, Justice, Knowledge, Leadership, Logic Love, Loyalty, Parity, Patience, Peace , Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, Safety, Selflessness, Sincerity, Support, Teamwork, Tolerance, Trust, Truth, Understanding, Unity.
